LWH39. LNER Gresley Class W1 'Hush Hush' 4-6-4 Loco and Tender No. 10000. In LNER grey livery with silver bands. This is by FM Models of Korea for L. H. Loveless and fitted with corridor tender, working inside motion, opening smokebox door, compensation on loco and tender, and superb cab detaIl. It has a knuckle coupler on the tender (which drops down to reveal a hook) and a screw coupling on the front of the locomotive. The model has had some light use and as a result has a number of very minor handling marks. However this is only the third model of a 'Hush Hush' I have handled in over 20 years of trading. It is supplied in its original outer box, with inner boxes (which have some usage damage). The prototype was into service from Darlington Works in 1929 using an experimental high pressure water-tube boiler. The 4-6-4 wheel arrangement was necessary to carry the extra length of the boiler and it was the only loco of this wheel arrangement to run on a standard gauge British railway. The name 'Hush Hush' probably refers to the initial secrecy of the project. Although running a non-stop service from London to Edinburgh between 1929 and 1936 its steaming performance was below expectations, a large proportion of its time it was back in works for modifications, and it was rebuilt at Doncaster in 1936 with a conventional but modified A4 type boiler and streamlined front end. It survived into BR as No. 60700 and was withdrawn from Doncaster in June 1959. FINAL PRICE REDUCTION TO £2250.
