LGST86. BR ex- GWR ex- War Department (GCR Designed) ROD 2-8-0 Loco and Tender No. 3031. In plain BR black with early crest, lightly weathered, and shedplate 84B Wolverhampton Oxley. This is from a Gladiator brass kit built by Ken Mason and painted by Paul Rusted. Fitted with a multi-stage gearbox, Slaters wheels, compensation on the centre 2 loco axles and the centre tender axle, and excellent cab detail. The model is lightly used. The prototype to a Great Central Robinson design was into service from the North British Locomotive Company, Glasgow, to the Railway Operating Division of the War Department as one of a number built in 1917 and 1918. In 1925, the GWR bought 80 engines from the War Department and these were numbered them 3020–99. Many of these were run 'as purchased' until they failed in the 1930's but a number were thoroughly overhauled and 'Swindonised' including fitting of copper fireboxes replacing steel fireboxes (the cause of many of the failures on those that did not go through Swindon). Forty six of the original eighty passed into BR ownership with No. 3031 spending all of its BR days at Wolverhampton Oxley being withdrawn in the mid - 1950's. £1195.
