LAP01. GWR Dean 'Single' 4-2-2 and Tender No. 3050 'Royal Sovereign'. In GWR fully lined and panelled livery with scroll type tender lettering, circa 1900 – 1906. This is kitbuilt from a brass Limited Edition kit by DJB Engineering (50 kits produced). Fitted with what looks like a Canon motor, multi-stage gearbox, Slaters wheels, and excellent cab detail. The tender coal, cab floor and fall plate are detachable and supplied. The model is lightly used and comes with a tailor made wooden case, which I would prefer to ship or deliver separately (models are better shipped in cardboard boxes as they are more forgiving in the event of any mis-handling). The loco has a few issues and is priced accordingly. (1) The drive is onto the single driving wheel axle without enough weight to hold the driving wheels on the track sufficiently to prevent wheel spin when hauling a train (usually a problem with single wheelers unless the problem is addressed at the building stage). I stress that the loco does run and will currently haul a lightweight train. (2) The tender water pickup scoop sits too low and fouls points (currently removed but supplied). (3) One sandpipe to the driving wheels is missing. (4) There are small indentations on the tender sides, under the paintwork, caused by the method of soldering the tender crossmembers to the sides during building. (5) One whistle is missing. The prototype was into service from Swindon Works in February 1895 as one of the 'Achilles' class. It had a short life of just over 20 years being withdrawn in December 1915. £1200.
