LDD03. BR Standard 'Britannia' Pacific Loco and Tender No. 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' as a RESTORATION PROJECT. In lined BR green with late crest. This is a substantial model part kitbuilt and part scratchbuilt in brass by John Delaney and fitted with Slaters wheels and very good cab detail. With an unknown can motor type, the multi-stage drive gears are of plastic construction but this does not detract from its performance (John made his own gearboxes and they perform very well) . The model is lightly used, however the right hand crankpin into the centre driving wheel is loose. This requires the motion off and centre driving wheel off so that the crankpin can be secured from the rear of the wheel. The prototype was into service from Crewe Works to Norwich Thorpe in May 1951 and made it to the very end being withdrawn from Carnforth in August 1968 - was this the last Pacific to be withdrawn? Subsequently it moved under its own steam to be preserved at Bressingham where it stayed for many years. It was restored to main line standards at the Great Central Railway between 2004 and 2008 and is now there awaiting its next overhaul, although it is owned by the National Railway Museum. £850 AS A RESTORATION PROJECT.
