LMD04. London & South Western Railway Adams '0415' Class 4-4-2 Radial Tank No. 519. In LSWR lined green livery. This is from a Martin Finney brass kit professionally built and painted by Chris Wesson to a very high standard. Fitted with a Portescap motor/gearbox, working inside motion, Slaters wheels, compensation on the driving axles, removable cab roof, and with excellent cab detail. It has had very light use as a display model. There are a couple of issues, firstly that of the four electrical pickups on the driving wheels only three are working. The method of pickup is as follows. There are 2 traditional wiper pickups on one side of the loco. On the opposite side the Slaters wheels have been 'shorted out' by soldering a thin copper strip between the rim and the hub, meaning that the wheels are live to the chassis and acting as electrical pickups themselves - it is one of these 'shorted' wheels that is not giving electrical connectivity (possibly due to a 'dry' joint). However the loco is running fine on 3 pickups. The other slight problem is that the motor/gearbox is a touch noisy. The prototype was into service from Dubs & Co. (Glasgow) in 1885 and was withdrawn by the Southern Railway in 1926 as SR No. 0519. £1595.
