LEJ78. BR ex-LNER Gresley Class A3 Pacific & Tender No. 60077 'The White Knight' as a RESTORATION PROJECT. Paired with a corridor tender and in lined BR green with early crest and shedplate 52B Heaton (Newcastle). This is kitbuilt from a DJH whitemetal and brass kit and painted by Adrian Prescott (his plate on the underside). Fitted with a Canon motor paired with an ABC-type multi-stage gearbox, Slaters wheels, American pickup system, and with excellent cab detail. Note that the motor is wired positive to negative so 'forward' on the controller is 'reverse' and vice versa. It has plunger pickups on the loco but these are rendered obsolete as it has been later converted to American pickup system (one side of the loco is 'live', the opposite side of the tender is 'live', with an insulated drawbar between the two). It has been lightly used but is sold as a 'Restoration Project' for the following reason. Whilst the motor and wheels/motion are free running in a loco cradle, when on the track it is a hesitant/reluctant runner. Also note that there are some small marks on the paintwork notably on the left side of the tender body. The prototype as an A1 Pacific was into service from the North British Locomotive Company (Glasgow) in October 1924 as LNER No. 2576. It was rebuilt as an A3 in July 1943 and became LNER No. 77 in the 1946 renumbering scheme, thence BR No. 60077. It was withdrawn from St. Margarets (Edinburgh) in July 1964. £850 as a RESTORATION PROJECT.
