LDS057. LNER Gresley Class A4 Pacific 4-6-2 & Tender No. 4468 'Mallard'. In pre-war form, fully valanced, with a double chimney, paired with a streamlined non-corridor tender and in LNER garter blue livery. This is probably from a DJH whitemetal and brass kit and fitted with a Canon motor, multi-stage gearbox, Slaters wheels, and with excellent cab detail and driver. The model has had medium use and runs fine but the left hand crankpin is loose and needs a little bit of work. The prototype was into service from Doncaster Works to Doncaster shed in March 1938 as No. 4468 becoming LNER No. 22 in the 1946 renumbering scheme and subsequently BR No. 60022 in 1949. On 3rd July 1938 'Mallard' achieved and still retains the world speed record for steam locomotives at 126 mph between Little Bytham and Essendine stations on the East Coast main line. It was withdrawn from Kings Cross for preservation in the National Collection in April 1963. It ran with a streamlined non-corridor tender from new until March 1948. £795.
