LEJ59. LNER Gresley Class A1 Pacific 4-6-2 Loco & Tender No. 4475 'Flying Fox'. Paired with a GNR-type coal rail tender and in early LNER lined apple green livery. This is kitbuilt, possibly from a Martin Finney kit, and painted by Larry Goddard (signed on the underside). Fitted with Alan Harris (AGH) turned steel wheels, a multi-stage gearbox, American pickup system, compensation on the loco and tender, and with excellent cab detail. Although built circa 2002 it appears to have had little use but note that one piece of boiler lining paintwork has been repaired (see photo). Also the motor is wired positive to negative so 'forward' on the controller is 'reverse' and vice versa. The prototype was into service from Doncaster Works in April 1923 so one of the very first locos completed under LNER ownership. It was rebuilt as an A3 in March 1947 having been renumbered to No. 106 in the LNER 1946 renumbering scheme, later becoming BR No. 60106. It was withdrawn from New England (Peterborough) in December 1964 having achieved the greatest mileage of all the Gresley Pacifics at almost 2.6 million miles. RESERVED.
