LPHO01. Great Western Railway Churchward 'Star' Class 4-6-0 & Tender No. 4001 'Dog Star'. In lined GWR livery with garter crest as running circa 1907 to 1934. This is scratchbuilt by highly skilful and competent modeller Brian Broumpton (sadly no longer with us) who is believed to always work in nickel silver. Painted by Alan Brackenborough. Fitted with a large Buhler/Crailcrest motor, heavy duty multi-stage gearbox, Alan Harris (AGH) turned steel wheels, fully working inside motion, extra pickups on the tender, and with excellent cab detail. The model is lightly used and is wired positive to negative so 'forward' on the controller is 'reverse' and vice versa. This is a substantial model and is supplied with a small packet of accessories. The prototype was into service from Swindon Works in February 1907 as the first production loco of the 'Star' class (No. 4000 'North Star' as a conversion from a 4-4-2 to a 4-6-0 was seen as experimental). It was withdrawn from Bristol Bath Road in January 1934. No. 4003 'Lode Star' is preserved in the National Collection and the Churchward 'Star' class are seen as the forerunners of GWR 'standardisation' covering the next 45 years. £2500.
