LGS41. GWR 'Achilles' Class Dean Single 4-2-2 and Tender No. 3046 'Lord of the Isles'. In lined and panelled GWR livery with 'GWR' in scroll letters on the tender as running pre- 1906. This is from a Limited Edition DJB Engineering brass kit of which 50 were produced about 15 years ago. Built by Norman Vickers and painted by Colin Tyler. Fitted with a multi-stage gearbox, Canon or similar motor, Slaters wheels, American pickup system, and with excellent cab detail. The model is lightly used. The prototype was into service from Swindon Works in January 1895. Despite the elegant lines and although the class was known for their speed, the 4-2-2 wheel arrangement soon became outdated and after Churchward considered various conversions it was decided that none were suitable and after a short life the class were withdrawn between 1908 and 1915. Withdrawn of No. 3046 came in October 1908. £1750.
