LKR20. Great Western Railway Collett ‘Castle’ 4-6-0 and Tender No. 5056 ‘Earl of Powis’. In GWR lined green livery with shirtbutton/roundel tender crest as used circa 1934 to 1942. This a brass model produced in Korea for Masterpiece Models and comes with all their usual refinements including fully working inside motion, fantastic cab detail and opening smokebox door with detail. This is a DC loco, the 8-pin DCC socket at the rear of the cab has a blanking plug fitted for DC running. This was order No. 89 of 111 Castles produced in this the first of the original Masterpiece productions introduced by Michael Brooks after he set up the business in 2008. All of the 111 'Castles' were sold prior to manufacturing being completed. The model is very lightly used or test run only and is supplied in its original inner and outer boxes with instruction manual, tools, unused accessories and Limited Edition certificate. It is now rare to find an original Masterpiece 'Castle' in such good condition complete with its original boxes and various bits and pieces. The prototype No. 5056 was into service from Swindon Works to Old Oak Common in June 1936, originally as 'Ogmore Castle' but only until renaming in September 1937. It looks to have been an Old Oak Common loco right through until July 1963 when it moved to Cardiff East Dock, then Hereford (April 1964) and Wolverhampton Oxley (June 1964) from where it was withdrawn in November 1964. Its final journey was a short one to Cashmore's at Great Bridge from where none survived. £2500.
