LDR17. LNER Gresley Class A3 Pacific 4-6-2 and Tender No. 2796 'Spearmint'. Paired with a Corridor tender and in LNER lined apple green livery. This is from a DJH whitemetal and brass kit and fitted with compensation on the leading two driving axles, an ABC multi-stage gearbox probably with a Canon or similar motor, Slaters wheels, and excellent cab detail. This substantial model is from a working layout having had medium use. The prototype was into service from Doncaster Works to Haymarket as LNER No. 2796 in May 1930. It was renumbered to No. 100 in the LNER 1946 renumbering scheme becoming BR No. 60100 in April 1949. It was withdrawn from Edinburgh St. Margarets in June 1965 having spent, as far as I can see, almost all its life as a Scottish loco. The racehorse 'Spearmint' ran competitively only five times in 1905/1906 but included in those wins were the Epsom Derby and the the French equivalent, the 'Grand Prix de Paris'. £895.
