LJEP19. GWR Collett 'Castle' Class 4-6-0 Loco and Tender No. 5034 'Corfe Castle'. In lined GWR green with 'twin cities' crest as used circa 1927 to 1934. This is a Limited Edition brass model by Masterpiece Models, the 'Castle' being the first of their original productions, and fitted with all their usual refinements including working inside motion and superb cab detail. The box says 'No. 22 of 111' but the plate on the underside of the loco says 'Product No. 099'. The model is lightly used and is supplied in its inner and outer boxes with accessories. However please note the following issues. (1) DCC/Sound is fitted and working using an ESU Loksound chip (address 5034) but the sound is giving a 'double chuff' on each beat suggesting an issue with the mechanical cam and associated copper strip which regulate the 'chuff'. As a result the loco is being sold as DC with the DCC blanking plug fitted (it runs fine on DC without sound). (2) The motor/gearbox is slightly noisy in reverse. (3) There is slight loss of the tender transfer on one side of the tender. (4) The inner boxes are untidy. The prototype was into service from Swindon Works in May 1935 to Newton Abbot and was withdrawn from Old Oak Common in September 1962. Other than a short loan to Penzance in 1940 and a 3-year stay at Reading it spent its time between Newton Abbot and Old Oak Common. £2400.
