LEJ01. GWR Collett 'Castle' Class 4-6-0 and Tender No. 4082 'Windsor Castle'. Paired with a Collett tender and in lined GWR green livery with 'twin cities' crest as used circa 1927 to 1934. This is one of the recent production of 'Castles' by Lee Marsh Model Company and is test run only. It is being sold as part of a deceased estate at a considerable discount from the 'new' price. The model is fitted with working inside motion, compensated chassis, and superb cab detail as you would expect from Lee's high very standards. Additionally fitted with DCC and sound using an ESU Loksound chip (address 4082) - I believe Cliff Williams has been doing the electronics for the 'Castles' so again the best man for the job. It will also run on DC with limited sound using the DCC blanking plug provided. The model comes in its original box with display plinth, service and DCC instructions, unused accessories, gloves, and DCC blanking plug. Due to the value, shipping (UK and International) is by DHL only at cost price. The prototype was into service from Swindon Works to Old Oak Common in April 1924 and had many shed allocations during its life from Plymouth Laira at one extreme to Wolverhampton Stafford Road at the other. In February 1952 Nos. 4082 Windsor Castle and 7013 Bristol Castle exchanged names and numbers so that No. 7013 could run disguised as No. 4082 for King George VI's funeral train. Presumably because No. 4082 at the time was in works or not in ‘tip top’ condition. The names and numbers were never swapped back. No. 4082 was withdrawn from Tyseley in September 1964 or February 1965 depending on which source you use (as No. 7013). No. 7013 was withdrawn from Gloucester Horton Road (as No. 4082) in September 1964 (sources agree). Both went to Cashmore's at Newport so survival was never an option. £2900.
