LGS54. BR ex-LMS Stanier 'Black Five' 4-6-0 and Tender No. 45156 'Ayrshire Yeomanry'. With a Stanier welded tender and in lined BR black with late crest and shedplate 65B St. Rollox. This is from a Javelin brass kit and is fitted with a Ron Chaplin heavy duty multi-stage gearbox probably with a Canon or similar motor, Slaters wheels, American pickup system, and with excellent cab detail. The model is lightly used but please note the following. (1) The cab windows require glazing. (2) The insulated drawbar between loco and tender is rather long and could be shortened for closer coupling. (3) Although it runs fine there is an intermittent short circuit in the area of the left hand centre tender wheel suggesting that the non-insulated part of this wheel is coming into contact with the chassis (a fibre washer may cure this). The prototype was into service from Armstrong Whitworth & Co. (Newcastle) in July 1935 as LMS No. 5156 becoming BR No. 45156 in September 1948. Its early BR life until April 1957 was at St. Rollox, moving to Newton Heath (Manchester) in April of that year. It was withdrawn from Rose Grove at the very end of steam in August 1968. £795.
