LJC17. GWR Dean 'Armstrong' Class Double Framed 4-4-0 Loco and Tender No. 16 'Brunel'. In fully lined and panelled GWR green livery with scroll crest as running circa 1900 to 1906, painted and lined by Alan Brackenborough. This is a handbuilt model in brass by Peter Roles and fitted with Alan Harris (AGH) turned steel wheels, ABC multi-stage gearbox with a Canon motor, compensated chassis, working inside motion, American pickup system, and superb cab detail. Additionally fitted with DCC and sound using a recent ESU Loksound chip (address 0016). The model is very lightly used and requires 6ft radius curves. This was handbuilt to a special order in 2005 at a cost of £8500 (supporting paperwork available). The prototype was into service from Swindon Works in 1894, one of a class of just 4 locos known as 'Class 7' or better known as just 'Armstrongs'. The other three members of the class were No. 7 'Armstrong', No. 8 'Gooch' and No. 14 'Charles Saunders'. Many of the parts used in construction were common to the Dean 'Singles'. They were primariy used on London - Bristol services until displaced by the Churchward 'Stars' and 'Cities' in the early 1900's, then moving to Wolverhampton and working from there. All four were rebuilt as members of the 'Flower' class between 1915 and 1923. No. 16 'Brunel' was renumbered to No. 4169 as rebuilt to a 'Flower' in 1915, retaining its name and being used on local services and station duties on the GWR Northern section until withdrawal in July 1930. £4995.
