LPAL09. BR ex- Southern Railway Urie/Maunsell ‘King Arthur’ 4-6-0 and Tender No. 30777 ‘Sir Lamiel’. Paired with an 8-wheel bogie tender and in lined BR green with late crest, weathered, and shedplate 74C Dover Marine. This is kitbuilt from a Northstar brass kit by John Delaney and fitted with one of John’s own design of motor/gearboxes, Slaters wheels and with very good cab detail and crew. The gearbox contains some plastic gearwheels but this does not detract from its performance. Additionally fitted with DCC and sound using a Zimo chip (address 3077). The model is lightly used. The prototype was into service from North British Locomotive Company (Glasgow) in June 1925 and thereafter was known as one of the ‘Scotch Arthurs’. First allocated to Nine Elms it was a Dover Marine loco from 1951 to 1959 then moving to Feltham then to Basingstoke in October 1960 from where it was withdrawn in October 1961. After several periods in storage (Fratton, Stratford and then Ashford) it moved into preservation as part of the National Collection with the Humberside Locomotive Preservation Group taking on restoration at Hull Dairycoates, the loco returning to mainline service in 1982 over the Settle & Carlisle route. I believe it is currently undergoing its latest overhaul at the Great Central Railway and is due back in service this year. £1150.
