LGST137. London & South Western Railway Adams 4-4-2 Radial Tank Loco No. 418 as a RESTORATION PROJECT. Nicely painted in LSWR lined green livery. This is an older scratchbuilt model in brass of historical interest by David Barrington-Holt with his label on the underside (see below for historical notes). Fitted with cast steel wheels, a worm & wheel drive (not sure of the motor type), and with some cab detail. The motor is extremely noisy and needs replacing with a more modern motor/gearbox combination. It is also a reluctant runner with the current setup, and the motor is wired positive to negative (so 'forward' on the controller is 'reverse' and vice-versa). The prototype, one of the '0415' class of the L&SWR, was into service in 1882 from Beyer Peacock & Company. It was withdrawn in 1922, most of the class being withdrawn in the 1920’s, however three did manage to avoid the breaker's torch and became famous for their long service on the Lyme Regis branch. David Barrington-Holt (died 2024) was a renowned designer, modelmaker and restorer of mechanical models who in the earlier part of his career built models for TV and film productions. He was also a well known and skilful builder of railway models in a number of gauges. He later became famous for his collaboration with Jim Henson (of Muppet fame) and also working with Disney studios. £600 as a RESTORATION PROJECT.
