LST12. North Eastern Railway Tyneside Electric Single-Pantograph 0-4+4-0 Loco No. 2. In lined NER freight black livery. This is a substantial model in brass, probably scratchbuilt, and fitted with Slaters wheels and one powered bogie with a twin-shaft motor driving both axles. The pantograph is non-working. The model is lightly used. The motor is wired positive to negative (so 'forward' on the controller is 'reverse' and vice versa). The motor and gears are noisy but give an authentic sound. The model came in a box marked 'London Road Models' but I don't know if they had any involvement in its manufacture. The prototype (along with No. 1) of class ES1 was built in 1905 by British Thomson-Houston Ltd. to work the Newcastle Quayside branch. Only about a mile long, it was difficult for steam locos due to tight radius curves and badly ventilated tunnels. Both locos lasted through LNER days and well into BR days not being withdrawn until 1964 when replaced by diesel shunters. No. 2 (by this time running as No. 26501) was sold for scrap in 1966 whilst No. 1 (running as No. 26500) was preserved as part of the National Collection (now at Shildon). £795.
