LPS15. BR ex- LMS Designed Stanier Class '8F' 2-8-0 Loco and Tender No. 48706. With a Stanier part rivetted/part welded tender and in plain BR black with late crest and shedplate 82F Bath Green Park. It has the 'star' on the cabside which denotes the prototype as having the wheels balanced for faster running. The loco is modelled as hauling the Stephenson Locomotive Society 'Special' over the Somerset & Dorset on 6th March 1966 (the last on the S&DJR). The model is from a modified Gladiator brass kit and fitted with a Mashima motor, MSC single stage gearbox, Slaters wheels, pickups on the loco and tender, detail added between the frames, lubricator details, and with excellent cab detail and crew including a loco inspector. The tender has been modified to give the part rivetted/part welded type with additional detailing including a tablet catcher. The motion has been weathered. The model is lightly used and the motor/gearbox combination is noisy. Note that the loco and tender are hard wired so it has not been possible to separate them for cab interior photos. The prototype was into service from Brighton Works in June 1944 as LNER No. 7652 renumbered to No. 3101 in 1946, No. 3501 in 1947 and again in 1947 to No. 8706 (becoming BR No. 48706 in 1948). Its early years were in the North of England (Aintree, Accrington, Northwich, Newton Heath). It went to Swansea Paxton Street at the beginning of 1951 staying until September 1959 thence to Llanelli. It moved to Bath Green Park in June 1965 and was withdrawn from there in March 1966, just a few days after the SLS Special. £895.
