LJSW08. London & North Western Railway Webb '17 inch Coal Engine' 0-6-0 and Tender No. 713. In fully lined LNWR blackberry black livery with shed code 21 (Bangor). This is handbuilt by John Petcher (with his maker's plate on the underside of the tender), and painted by Alan Brackenborough. Fitted with fully working inside motion, sprung hornblocks on the centre axle, AGH (Alan Harris) steel wheels, an ABC gearbox with a Maxxon motor, American pickup system, and with excellent cab detail and crew. The model is lightly used. The LNWR 17in 'Coal Engine' was a class of 0-6-0 tender engines designed by Francis Webb for hauling coal trains ("17in" indicated their cylinder diameter in inches). A total of 499 were produced. Many saw wartime service overseas with the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers, in France and in Palestine, during the First World War. 227 passed into LMS ownership of which 35 continued into BR service, however No. 713 was gone before the grouping of 1923.
