LJSW06. London & North Western Railway Webb 0-6-2 Coal Tank No. 1054. In fully lined LNWR blackberry black livery. This is handbuilt by Harry Coulter of South Wales with his maker's plate on the underside, and painted by Alan Brackenborough. Fitted with AGH (Alan Harris) steel wheels, a Portescap motor/gearbox, and with excellent cab detail. The model is lightly used and the motor/gearbox is a touch noisy as is often the case with a Portescap. The prototype was into service with the LNWR from Crewe Works in September 1888, one of a class of 300 later known as 'Coal Tanks'. Whilst allocated to Bangor it received its LMS number 7799 following the grouping. It was withdrawn from Shrewsbury in January 1939 but was reprieved from the cutter's torch by the outbreak of war, and was overhauled at Crewe and put back into service from Patricroft (Manchester) in December 1940 returning to Shrewsbury 12 months later. In October 1949 it became BR No. 58926 by which time it was back in Lancashire. At some time in the mid-1950's it was withdrawn again and stored at Abergavenny before becoming a stationary boiler for a short time at Pontypool Road in 1958. Withdrawn in the same year, it was again at Crewe Works awaiting scrapping but was then the subject of a preservation attempt by the Webb Coal Tank Engine Preservation Fund led by J. M. Dunn (former shedmaster at Bangor) becoming the first loco to be saved by public subscription. After a long preservation history it has spent a number of years at the Keighley & Worth Valley railway where it still resides, its last overhaul completed in 2022. RESERVED.
