Fine Quality Model Railways in Gauge 'O' and Gauge '1'
LJM03. An excellent kitbuilt model of London & North Western Railway ‘Claughton’ 4-6-0 No. 1097 ‘Private W. Wood V.C.’. This is very well built by renowned modeller Geoff Holt (plated on underside) and painted in LNWR lined black. It has solid cast wheels, compensated chassis, Buhler motor and two stage gearbox. With excellent cab detail, and also fitted with DCC and sound (address 1097). It does need wide radius curves and there are some minor blemishes on the paintwork. The model is lightly used. The prototype was into service from Crewe Works in May 1920 but such was the pace of loco development within the LMS that it was withdrawn in May 1935. Wilfred Wood was a LNWR Fireman who was awarded the Victoria Cross for Gallantry in the First World War. He survived and returned to the railway becoming a driver after the War. He retired as a Supervisor in 1960 and died early in 1982. RESERVED.
