LGST140. Great Western Railway ‘Achilles’ Class Dean Single 4-2-2 Loco & Tender No. 3047 'Lorna Doone'. In fully lined and panelled GWR green livery with scroll crest as running circa 1898 to 1906. This looks to be scratchbuilt of quite solid construction, well weighted, and fitted with a worm and wheel drive (not sure of the motor type), solid cast steel wheels, and with excellent cab detail. Clearly it has been professionally painted, believed to be by David Studley (but no signature evident. Note that a paint job to this standard would cost at least £600/£650 today). The model is lightly used and although it runs OK the motor/gears combination is noisy and would benefit from replacement by a more modern motor/gearbox. The prototype was into service from Swindon Works in February 1895, the class eventually numbering 80 locos. It was withdrawn in November 1912. Richard Doddridge Blackmore was a Victorian author and his famous novel 'Lorna Doone' was set in Devon. SOLD.
